Hello my name is Mrs Kerr. I joined Sherdley Primary in 2016 and I have been the PSHE co-ordinator since then. I have taught in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and I have a great understanding of the importance of Personal, Social and Emotional development in children from an early age. I attend regular meetings with other PSHE leaders in the local authority and I have also been responsible for chairing and leading these meeting for one academic year. These meetings are vital to share information about the implementation of PSHE across schools and updates on any current issues.

The subject of PSHE follows the National Curriculum in England for primary schools. At Sherdley Primary School we use the scheme Jigsaw. This informs the long-term, medium and short term planning for the teaching, learning and assessment of PSHE at the school.

PSHE is a planned programme of learning through which our children acquire knowledge, understanding and skills they need to navigate and manage their lives. As part of the whole school approach PSHE develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. It prepares them to manage many of the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities that they will face growing up in such a rapidly changing and challenging world. It also helps them connect and apply knowledge and understanding that they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations whilst helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their academic potential. We follow the programme Jigsaw and all year groups have timetabled PSHE lessons that are linked to 6 main themes, one per half term. The themes are: Being Me in My World, Celebrating Differences, Dream & Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me. We actively promote British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. If you would like more information about PSHE at Sherdley Primary School, please feel free to contact me.
